If you can avoid doing a water change then it will help the cycle complete itself faster but if you have fish in the tank then a water change is a must to prevent undue stress up to death for the fishes.  The water change will make the cycle last longer but it is better for the fishes to have a longer spike at a low level than having a high amount of ammonia for a short period (which can be deadly if high enough).
The only thing that happens fast in a reeftank is disaster......and an empty wallet!

but the shock from water changes could do the same, if its up just a bit, then leave it and add a bacterial product, nitromax, or stability.  theyve already gone through the changes so they are adapting a bit as time goes on.
